Top 5 Animal Mascots in the MLB

Posted by mypetscommunity on July 6, 2010

We all love professional sports’ mascots, we have to admit it. They are entertaining, they are fun, and they make us laugh. With the Baseball All-Star game getting closer I wanted to make a post about the top 5 mascots in baseball (in my opinion of course). Let me know what you think and if you have other favorite mascots.

5.Dinger (Colorado Rockies)

Ok I know, he is not a regular animal. He is a Dinosaur, a triceratops to be more specific, but how cool does he look? I mean a purple dinosaur? that’s amazing

4.Mariner Moose (Seattle Mariners)

Mariner Moose is a absolute fan favorite. He is the mascot of the Seattle Mariners, and he became famous when he broke his ankle while rollerblading attached to a ATV in a playoff series against the Yankees. He also almost ran over a Boston Red Sox’s player.

3.Fredbird (St. Luis Cardinals)

Fredbird is the mascot for the St. Louis Cardinals. He is crazy and wild. He once ran over a player during a game, while he was doing wild stuff with his ATV.

2.Billy the Marlin (Florida Marlins)

The second favorite of the list. Billy is known for his pranks on players and fans. There was a skydiving mishap back in 1997, when the mascot jumped out of a plane, lost the head (the costume), and also missed to land on the stadium on the stunt attempt.

1.Wally the Green Monster (Boston Red Sox)

I have to say that whatever creature Wally is, he is the best mascot in the Major League. He is the official mascot of the Boston Celtics and he looks like a character from Sesame Street, which makes him awesome.

Tips to keep you pet safe during Hot Weather

Posted by mypetscommunity on June 29, 2010

Keep your pets safe

Follow these tips to help your pet beat the heat:

- Never leave your pet in the car. The inside of a car can heat up to 120 degrees in just a few minutes. If you have to transport your pet for some reason, never leave the animal alone in the car.

- Exercise pets in the early morning or evening.

- Watch for signs of hyperthermia. They include heavy panting, drooling, unsteadiness and vomiting.

- Keep pets off hot asphalt and sand. Not only can those surfaces burn your pet’s paws, it can also lead to hyperthermia because one of the ways pets release heat is by sweating through their paw pads. Walk dogs on the grass.

- Ensure your pet has plenty of clean, fresh water, especially in the hot summer months. If you take them to the beach, make sure your pet does not drink saltwater because it can make them very sick.

- If you take your pet to the beach or pool, bring an umbrella to provide your pet with some shade.

- Protect your pet’s skin with sunscreen on its nose and ear tips. This is especially important in pets that have white fur and pink skin.

- Ensure that pets left outside always have access to food, water and shelter. Failure to do so could lead to charges of animal cruelty or neglect.

- Animals with flat faces, such as Pugs and Persian cats, as well as pets that are elderly, overweight and have heart or lung diseases are more susceptible to heat stroke and should be kept cool as much as possible.

- Do not leave pets unsupervised around a pool. Rinse your dog off after swimming to remove chlorine or salt from the fur, and try to keep pets from drinking pool water.

Healthy Pets

Posted by mypetscommunity on April 10, 2010

In our pet community, everyone is concerned that our pets are not eating healthy, and are becoming obese. While this is a growing problem, as expressed in the article below, it is easily controlled by buying the right type of food. In the future, Social Animalz and My Pets Community will be offering a great and healthy alternative to traditional pet food. We will keep you up to date as to when we will offer these products.

(Animal Radio Newsroom – Apr. 9, 2010) Overweight pets are a growing problem in the U.S. according to the Association for Pet Obesity Prevention.

Current numbers show 45% of dogs and 58% of cats are fat, overweight or obese.

Experts say “treats” continue to be the main culprit in the chubby epidemic as well as owners who refuse to recognize their pet’s problem. Veterinarians say the connection between excess weight and health problems top the list of cases seen in their offices.

Dr. Ernie Ward has tips for your chubby puppy. He says pet-food manufacturers are manipulating consumers.

How my pets community began

Posted by mypetscommunity on April 1, 2010

SocialAnimalz.com began as a concept in the winter of 2009, when my love of pets (especially dogs), and the desire to start a business merged. In April 2009, the website became a reality, and we have been online since then. The original concept for my pets community and design as a social networking site for pets and pet lovers began to evolve, and the site was redesigned in July 2009, to better reflect a user friendly platform which allows people to more easily interact. The site allows for pet profiles, pictures, videos, and blogs, as well as the ability to communicate with other pet lovers around the world.Social Animalz

In November 2009, Social Animalz was redesigned to give it a more distinct identity, and to further evolve into more of a social networking and informational website, whose goal is to build the largest pet community on the internet, and around the world. Our current membership ranges from Europe, Asia, and North America.

In January of this year, we started offering products with our logo, and “Cool Cat” and “All Dogs go to Heaven” T Shirts. And in the months ahead we have new products in mind as well as lots of fun additions to my pets community.
